Framing the view: nature right up to the facade!

This project concerns the transformation of a modest artist’s residence into a home for a young family where both parents regularly work from home. The house is situated on the edge of a nature reserve with a beautiful view of the meadows to the south. The starting point is to preserve the feeling of the modest size but to renovate/extend in such a way that sufficient space is created for the family to combine living and working. The owners are both biologists and attach great importance to the sense and perception of the surrounding nature.

There will be a spacious kitchen on the south side: a portal with glass facade and french doors offers a panoramic view. The hallway in the house is a clear axis, with functional spaces on one side and living areas on the other, extended to the rear facade and connection to a new extension: the study/garden room. Due to its position at the rear, this space is surrounded by both the meadows and the large private garden. Because of the moss/sedum roof and transparent facades with an open structure of portals, the extension and nature literally intertwine.
