The current first floor, with its lowered ceilings and high knee walls, comprises two bedrooms and a simple combined bathroom/laundry/boiler room. One of the bedrooms is shared by two growing daughters. The client’s wish is for each daughter to have their own bedroom, a well-functioning bathroom, and a separate space for the washer and dryer. Spacious and especially practical storage is also provided.
This house features a hallway with a mezzanine at the staircase, where an additional floor (attic) will be created, extending from and connecting to an attic above the children’s room. The ceiling of the master bedroom will be removed, and a staircase will be built to the new storage space. This staircase (including storage space underneath) also separates the master bedroom from a walk-in closet. To create more space and light, a dormer window will be installed at the third bedroom, bathroom, and laundry room.
